Iran war live: Araghchi warns US of ‘bigger miscalculation’ over Hormuz

• Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the US miscalculated the Iran war due to intelligence failures and risks making an even “bigger miscalculation” over the Strait of Hormuz.

• Hossein Taeb, the commander of the paramilitary Basij Organisation, an affiliate of the IRGC, says the Strait of Hormuz is “under Iran’s control and management”.

• This comes as US President Donald Trump continues to insist that the US has “total control” over the strait, despite shipping traffic through the key waterway dropping to a one-week low amid the escalating war on Iran.

• A group of Israeli settlers has trapped three Palestinian families in their own homes in the village of Qusra in the occupied West Bank. Families have told Al Jazeera that the settlers have blocked the entrances to at least three homes since Sunday as Israeli soldiers stand by and watch.

Israeli settlements ‘are protected, sanctioned by the Israeli state’

The situation of Israeli settler violence is endemic. It’s everywhere.

We are in the middle of Ramallah. There are 12 outposts on the hills right in front of us. This is where Palestinians would want to build, for example, if they wanted to expand this area, and now they can’t.

I just spoke to a lady that we had visited in the Bethlehem area a few minutes ago, and she was telling me that she’s also trapped in her home. She can’t receive her daughters for a visit starting on the weekend because the Israeli settlers have taken over the road.

There are dozens and dozens of illegal settlement outposts across the occupied West Bank. They are funded, they’re protected, they’re sanctioned by the Israeli state.

The fact that one place, one village, Qusra in particular, has gained attention, and where the Israeli army seems to be deliberately showing an effort to curb some of those attacks, doesn’t mean that they’re not happening everywhere across the occupied West Bank.

Iranian military rejects US claims that vessels are transiting the Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian military has rejected the US claims that vessels are transiting the Strait of Hormuz normally, insisting that no ship can pass through without its permission.

“The Strait of Hormuz, as in the past, remains under the full management and control of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said a spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, according to state media.

“No commercial vessel or oil tanker can or will have safe passage through the Strait without the permission and supervision of Iran’s powerful Armed Forces.”

US-Iran war negotiations deadlocked amid competing demands

• Talks on ending the war between Washington and Tehran are stalled as the terms of an interim peace agreement signed in June have broken down over control of the Strait of Hormuz.

• Trump has demanded compensation from Iran for those he claimed Iran killed after Tehran conditioned the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on receiving war reparations from Washington.

• Iran demanded that the US meet six conditions in order for the strait to be fully reopened: not threatening Iran or insulting the nation; permanently ending wars in Iran and its allies; lifting the US naval blockade; paying damages; lifting sanctions; and releasing frozen assets.

• Iran says it is nearing a final pact with Oman to define new shipping lanes between them through the strait, while Trump claims the US Navy has full control of the waterway.
