Nuclear negotiations between the US and Iran will continue at the end of April
The third round of negotiations between Iran and the US on the nuclear agreement will take place on April 26. The second meeting was conducted "constructively."
Iran and the United States have agreed to a further round of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program. This will take place next Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi announced in Rome. However, prior to this, there will be expert-level talks .
The four-hour talks in Rome took place in a "constructive atmosphere," Iranian media reported. Oman served as mediator. Iran 's spiritual and political leader , Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had previously stated that he was neither overly optimistic nor pessimistic. Aragchi stated that he considered an agreement with the United States on Iran's nuclear program possible.
During the indirect negotiations in Oman, Iran signaled its willingness to accept some restrictions on its uranium enrichment. At the same time, the leadership in Tehran is demanding guarantees from the United States that a potential new nuclear agreement cannot be withdrawn later.
In 2015, Iran signed an international agreement that provided for the easing of sanctions in return for curbing its nuclear program . However, during the first term of US President Donald Trump, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and imposed new sanctions on Iran. Iran subsequently gradually withdrew from its commitments under the agreement and ramped up uranium enrichment .
In his second term, Trump intends to revive his "maximum pressure" policy against Iran. He threatened the country with bombing raids if it refused to make concessions. Israel also did not rule out an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities in the coming months, according to insiders reported by the Reuters news agency.
